Story

We need to teach our children about the value of the social economy. We need to show them that the toys they enjoy come from somewhere. The things they play with have an effect on the world and they are part of it.

Our economy today teaches the bottom line. Cheap and fast. We need to teach quality and care.

When you give your child a gift make it one that matters. Set an example and teach your child the true value of things. Santa Claus is a beautiful tradition, but it eventually needs to be replaced with responsibility and understanding where things come from and what the impact is.

We try to teach our children to grow up and be good people. Doing good means buying good and we need to teach that lesson.

The moral compass of our youth is already pointing to quality and care. It is a clear choice for all of us. That is why it will work.

The propellers.social concept is simple and kids will get it right away: when you buy something consider who made it and where it came from. If you make the right choice you are helping businesses to continue to treat people well and take care of the environment. When we do that together now, our children will grow up in a better world.

Kids!

Do you want me to tell you a story?

You are important. We live in a big world. What you believe matters and what you choose matters.

Do you believe in sharing? Everytime you choose to share you are helping someone else.

Do you like stories? Everytime you play with a toy there is a story behind it. Best of all it is a true story.

We can choose our favorite stories and share them with each other. When we share stories we share what is important to us.

You are important.

Share what is important to you.

Tell your story.

When you choose you tell a story about what matters to you. If something means nothing then you have little to share and no story to tell.

There is nothing more exciting than to be part of something. Your life is meaningful. You are growing up in a world that needs you. You may be small right now but you are big.

You choose. You decide. You tell a story. You share. You make a difference…you are important.

So know that the world you are going to grow up in is full of choices and every choice is a story and every good story deserves to be shared.

This is just the beginning. The story continues with you.

Eric Jones, CEO

“I am the Chief Executive Officer of Propellers.social and I am passionate about making a social impact as a company and in the way we promote social innovation from the top down and the bottom up. I believe that what is unique in our approach is that it is holistic and tackles inequity from multiple perspectives representing different parts of the economy. I believe that is what will make it work. If you are a social entrepreneur, pitch your idea to us, we are open and receptive to new business concepts. If you are a corporation that makes a contribution to the world, contact us for an assessment, and we will let the world know all that you do. If you are a publisher think about monetizing with ethical advertising, know that you will stand out for being socially responsible and for not promoting invasive annoying ads. If you are a consumer consider ‘buying for good’ and support the companies that make a difference. If we do all these things together at the same time, we will propel our economy into being .social. Thank you for being part of it!”

Here and in other ways, Propeller.social makes a subtle recalculation of value that puts a price on stimulating social innovation, empowering ethical business, and championing consumer choice. Doing good needs to be encouraged and our marketplace does not encourage it enough. Our mission is simple: create value in the marketplace for all contributions to society and the environment.

We do this in three ways:

  1. Establishing social incubators to build up local companies that profit and at the same time, address social and environmental inequities.
  2. Become the leader in setting standards for corporate social responsibility and in doing so, promote ethical business practices even in competitive markets. Sector specific evaluations will observe the ethical leader of an industry, and their effort will be acknowledged in the publication of our results.
  3. Provide a way for consumers to be informed of those businesses and products that do good for society and the environment. Through ethical advertising publishers can monetize their website with ‘good’ ads that contribute to the knowledge consumers have of the most responsible businesses in the marketplace.

Taken separately, each of these three components already exist as a practice of some kind, but we need more than one approach at the same time. Propellers.social aims to be a force for social innovation, ethical business, and consumer choice. We aim to stimulate, empower, and champion a social economy where ethical considerations become a top priority of all businesses and consumers.

We cannot go without an independent marketplace of supply and demand. In many sectors of the economy, regulation and government intervention are too slow and cumbersome to make a real difference. The answer to the excesses of the market that exist today comes from within–coming up with solutions to local problems and being profitable while you are doing it–running a multinational corporation and including social responsibility in your calculations of financial gain–a publisher standing out by making the decision to sell ads that say something about the world instead of just getting in the way–a consumer that will pay a little more for a product that contributes something positive.

There is nothing contradictory about doing good in our local and global economy. But we need an internal market-driven force to apply pressure on our economy and it has to come from the top down and the bottom up to be effective.

We can use the market to achieve a greater depth of happiness and a more substantial kind of wealth for more and more people. Choose to support an organization that has all the potential in the world to improve the way we buy and sell and make each other happy.
